Port community opts for safer import container release process through the Secure Chain

Share:

Why has the port community opted for the Secure Chain?
Physical and digital security in the port logistics chain is under pressure. At the request of Deltalinqs, evofenedex, Fenex, GroentenFruit Huis, KBN, TLN, VRC and VRTO, Portbase has developed the Secure Chain, as an extension of the existing Portbase services. The Secure Chain creates a safer import container release process and thereby contributes to perpetuating the security of port-related distribution processes in the Netherlands.

How does the Secure Chain work?
With the Secure Chain, chain parties should explicitly pass on the release (the right to collect a container) to the next link in the chain. This method ensures that only involved parties can perform actions and access data. This will prevent parties with a malicious intent from gaining access to cargo or cargo information using an illegally obtained ‘key’ or PIN code.

What is expected from chain participants?
The functioning of the Secure Chain has been successfully tested in practice in recent months.
The port community is now beginning the phased rollout of the Secure Chain. This means among other things that all parties involved in the container release process will have to start adjusting their working methods and possibly also their systems accordingly.

Deltalinqs, evofenedex, Fenex, GroentenFruit Huis, KBN, TLN, VRC and VRTO
are therefore calling for action:

Get involved and start preparing for the Secure Chain now!

What is the schedule for the implementation of the Secure Chain?
It has been agreed with the relevant industry associations that the first import container cargo flows will be handled through the Secure Chain in the coming months. More information on this will follow in August.

Together, we can establish a safer container release process!
