We look ahead: alongside HVO100 we are now also taking the next step with a new electric truck.
- Pioneer in electric transport: in 2013 we already operated the heaviest fully electric truck in Europe
- Future-oriented: in December we will add another electric truck to our fleet
- Smart planning & modern onboard computers = less fuel, lower CO₂ emissions
- For clients such as DHL and OOCL, we already operate trucks running on HVO100 – a 100% renewable fuel that reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90% and significantly improves air quality
FEWER EMPTY MILES, MORE EFFICIENCY
Smart planning & collaboration
At Transportbedrijf G. v.d. Heijden & Zn. B.V., we believe sustainability is not only about fuels and vehicles, but also about the way we work together. By combining trips and using digital tools, we save mileage, fuel and costs.
In 2015 we participated in Boxreload, a TLN/Erasmus project aimed at digitally combining empty runs between hauliers. Although the project did not continue, it symbolises for us cooperation and progress – a vision we still pursue every day.
Bert van der Heijden
- Fewer empty miles through smarter planning
- Digital tools: MyTerminal & TMS
- Participation in Boxreload (2015, TLN & Erasmus) as a pioneer in collaboration
- Cooperation with fellow hauliers, terminals, inland shipping and rail
STRONGER TOGETHER
Cooperation within the sector
As chairman of the Alliance of Container Hauliers (AZV), Bert van der Heijden regularly stresses the importance of collaboration. Not only between fellow hauliers, but also with terminals, depots, inland shipping, rail and customers. Only by combining trips, embracing digitalisation and exploring alternatives such as night or Saturday operations can the sector cope with the increasing pressure in the Port of Rotterdam.
In addition, Van der Heijden actively promotes sustainable solutions, such as the use of HVO100 fuel and the introduction of electric trucks. These efforts are part of our broader vision: building a future-proof logistics chain in which cooperation, innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.

Collaboration is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Only by embracing digitalisation, sustainable fuels and smart planning will the port remain future-proof.

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF LOGISTICS
Inspiring the next generation
In 2023, Transportbedrijf G. v.d. Heijden & Zn. B.V. took the initiative for the first Logistics Open Day in Ridderkerk, together with eight other transport companies and local education partners. The aim was not only to recruit new staff, but also to inspire young people to pursue a career in transport and logistics. Visitors got a first-hand look at the diversity of the industry and the companies behind this important logistics hub.
In this way, we contribute to attracting new employees and increasing the visibility of the sector – an important part of corporate social responsibility.
ROOTED IN THE REGION

Sponsoring local events
We actively support initiatives such as Stichting Help Eens Een Handje (including the annual Truckers’ Ride), various RONDO activities, and V.V. Rijsoord.
