G. van der Heijden & Zn Transport Company from Ridderkerk is now transporting containers for two of their clients using truck combinations running on HVO100. The abbreviation HVO stands for ‘Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil’. This new type of diesel fuel is produced from hydrogen-treated vegetable oils and residual waste, such as animal fats. The number ‘100’ indicates that it is a high-quality durable product in its purest, unmixed form (100%). Schouten Olie BV from Alphen aan den Rijn supplies the HVO100.
HVO100 achieves CO2 reductions of up to 90% and lower emissions of harmful emissions such as particulates, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. This is not only better for air quality, but also good for the engine as filters and injectors stay cleaner for longer.
Bert van der Heijden, director: “DHL asked us to switch to HVO100, and we gladly complied with this request. We are also switching to HVO100 for our client OOCL on our own initiative. HVO100 is more expensive than traditional diesel fuel, so it requires a willingness to invest on our part, as well as on our client’s part. We do our bit to help achieve environmental and climate goals. It is our hope that many of our clients will join DHL and OOCL.”
